Naples and Estero sit a few miles apart and share a climate, but a pool cage in Park Shore and one in The Brooks are living very different lives. Understanding those differences explains most of what we recommend on an estimate in Collier and south Lee County.
Beach and Bay: Salt Does the Damage
Along the Gulf and the bay, salt arrives on every breeze and settles on every surface of the frame. The first casualties are the fasteners, which bloom with white corrosion and then bleed rust down the uprights, and the bottom rail, which pits where salt and irrigation water meet. For these homes the preparation before any coating is extensive, every screw is replaced with stainless steel, and the single most effective maintenance step afterward is rinsing the frame with fresh water after windy weather.
Gated Communities: The Standard Comes First
In Estero and North Naples, the architectural committee sets the frame color and often the screen type. Bronze and black dominate, and both show chalk as a grey haze on the sunny beams years before a white cage would look worn. Repainting in the existing color is usually treated as maintenance; a color change needs product information for the committee. Reclaimed-water irrigation adds white mineral spotting to the lower rail that has to be stripped before coating.
Golden Gate Estates: Sun and Well Water
On the large lots of the Estates the problems are inland ones: full sun on open ground that chalks the finish, and iron-rich well water from sprinklers that paints the lower frame and screen orange. Iron deposits etch into aluminum and must be stripped, not painted over, and the sprinkler heads hitting the cage should be redirected before a new finish goes on.
What Irma and Ian Left Behind
Both storms crossed Collier County. Many enclosures were closed up quickly afterward with mismatched hardware and screen stretched over bent bars, and some were painted over that work. Restoration projects in Naples and Estero routinely start by undoing those shortcuts.
